FG, UNICEF hail Nigeria’s efforts in child rights’ protection

The Federal Government and UNICEF have highlighted Nigeria’s advancements in child protection attributed to the implementation of the Child Rights Act (CRA). Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, shared this information during an interactive session with students at a symposium held at the Government Science Technical School in Abuja to commemorate the Universal Day of the Child.

Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the government’s consistent commitment to prioritizing children’s rights nationwide, ensuring their access to essential needs, education, and protection from abuse and violence. She stressed the ongoing responsibility of Nigeria to safeguard and ensure the well-being of its children.

In reference to President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, she asserted, “Children should understand that this marks a new era in Nigeria, where their rights will not be violated.”

Chikodi Onyemerela, UNICEF’s Director of Programmes in Nigeria, underscored the non-negotiable nature of children’s rights, including access to quality healthcare, education, developmental opportunities, and protection from emotional abuse. He emphasized the crucial role of recognizing children in governance and allocating resources for their well-being, emphasizing that investing in children today ensures responsible and capable future citizens for Nigeria.
