Girl-child education should be top priority – Rotary

On Monday, the newly established Rotary District 9127 pledged to prioritize girl-child education and positively impact the youth in the country.

During his inaugural press conference in Abuja, Rotarian Mike Ukachi Nwanoshiri, the Pioneer District Governor of Rotary District 9127, made this commitment. The new district encompasses all Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Nwanoshiri stated, “We are going to introduce girl-child education. It’s a necessity. If we as parents don’t address it, they won’t develop properly. We often discuss mental health, but what causes it? It stems from parenting. What kind of upbringing did you provide for your young girl? We must ensure they are not neglected. If we don’t start addressing this issue now, we will face bigger problems.”

He added, “We must also encourage our young girls to value themselves and not become objects for men. They need to respect themselves and understand their importance, as they are the bearers of life. We teach them to be independent and not rely on men for their needs. I know some mothers in various clubs who will take on this project to ensure that by the time these girls leave their youth, they will have gained valuable experience and self-management skills.

“While we often discuss youth empowerment, this time we will shift the focus to youth impact.”

He urged young people to avoid societal vices, develop themselves, and work hard to achieve success.

Nwanoshiri expressed his enthusiasm about his new role as District Governor of Rotary District 9127, saying, “I am excited to lead this vibrant and dedicated community of Rotarians, and I am committed to building on the excellent work of our past Governors.”
