Gov Adeleke offsets half-salary debt to Osun civil servants

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has settled another portion of the outstanding half salary debt owed to civil servants, which was accrued during the administration of Rauf Aregbesola. The Adegboyega Oyetola administration, in contrast, did not take any steps to address the lingering salary debts.

A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed that this marks the fourth installment of payments made since Adeleke assumed office. The statement further outlined that Governor Adeleke had previously sanctioned a phased payment strategy to tackle the 30-month arrears of half salaries. A similar arrangement was also established with pensioners to settle a substantial outstanding pension and gratuity amounting to N75 billion.

Governor Adeleke underscored the proactive measures taken upon assuming office, including the issuance of a circular on phased payments by the Head of Service under his directive. He affirmed his commitment to the phased payment approach, which was initiated through the circular, and assured workers that the implementation would continue without interruption. Additionally, the governor highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of both active workers and retirees.

Addressing the public, Adeleke emphasized his dedication to implementing recently approved palliative allowances for both workers and pensioners across the state, extending to local government workers.
