The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons has provided relief materials to victims of banditry in Zamfara State.

As per a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal received these items during his visit to the commission’s headquarters.

The federal commissioner of the National Commission for Refugee, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, welcomed the governor during this visit.

The statement explained that Governor Lawal’s purpose in visiting the National Commission for Refugee, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons was to explore additional ways to assist those affected by banditry in Zamfara State.

During the visit, Governor Lawal appealed to the Commission to prioritize Zamfara due to the ongoing insecurity and the dire need for humanitarian assistance.

He requested that the Honourable Commissioner consider extending the refugee resettlement cities constructed in Gusau to other zones of the state. Furthermore, due to limited resources, the governor emphasized the need for partnership and collaboration in alleviating the suffering of over 2000 refugees in Zamfara.

In response, the Honourable Commissioner reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing continuous support to persons affected by insecurity in Zamfara and other states.

He expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and commitment to the well-being of his people and assured that the Commission would provide additional support based on the governor’s request.

Among the items received by Governor Lawal were bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, semovita, farming tools, computers, industrial sewing machines, cobbling machines, exercise books, and whiteboards, among others.
