The budget, titled “Budget of Inclusive Development,” was presented during Tuesday’s plenary session at the Assembly complex. This marks Governor Ododo’s first budget presentation since succeeding Yahaya Bello on January 27, 2024.
The proposed budget allocates ₦279,590,215,687 (48.01%) to recurrent expenditure and ₦302,813,903,802 (51.99%) to capital expenditure. The total figure represents a 43.34% increase from the revised 2024 budget of ₦406,321,130,013, reflecting an additional ₦176,082,989,476.
Governor Ododo described the budget as a “fair and realistic representation” of the state’s revenue potential, built on comprehensive analysis of both internal and external funding sources. He emphasized its focus on boosting internally generated revenue, repaying debts, fostering a conducive business environment, promoting public-private partnerships, optimizing revenue, and completing ongoing projects.
Speaker of the House, Umar Yusuf, highlighted the importance of the collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms in the budget process.
“As representatives of the people, it is our duty to scrutinize the budget to ensure it aligns with the state’s financial plans, vision, and priorities. This process reflects our commitment to the welfare, aspirations, and progress of the citizens of Kogi State through inclusive development, economic growth, and social justice,” Yusuf stated.
He called on his colleagues to approach the review process with dedication and purpose, ensuring the 2025 budget effectively contributes to the prosperity and progress of the state.
