Gunmen attacks: Security heads visit Njaba, Okwelle, reassure residents

In response to the recent failed attack by unknown gunmen at the Njaba Police divisional headquarters, leaders from various security agencies in the state undertook an important confidence-building visit to both the Njaba Divisional Headquarters and the Okwelle community.

According to a statement from ASP Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, this visit followed the thwarted attack on the Njaba Division and an assault on scrap dealers in Okwelle by gunmen believed to be linked to IPOB/ESN.

Okoye noted that State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, along with Brigadier General UA Lawal of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Commodore MB Salisu of the Oguta Naval Base, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs Rtd Gen. Joseph Ogbonna, and Commissioner for Homeland Security Hon. Modestus Osakwe, praised the officers for their bravery and encouraged them to continue safeguarding the division against potential threats.

He emphasized that the proactive measures taken by the officers demonstrated the commitment of security agencies to protect both personnel and the community.

During their visit to Okwelle, the delegation expressed condolences to the families affected by the attacks and visited injured victims in the hospital, offering support and reassurance of their collective efforts to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

Additionally, the security chiefs engaged with leaders of the Northern communities in the state at Ama Hausa, reiterating their commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents.

Okoye further stated that the collaborative efforts of the security chiefs reflected a proactive stance in addressing recent security challenges, noting that ongoing engagement with the community would help build trust and cooperation, ultimately enhancing the safety and security of the state.
