Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has implemented a prohibition on the sale and transport of food products and agricultural produce in large quantities from the state to other parts of Nigeria.
Bago made this announcement during a press briefing, emphasizing that the bulk sale of food items has led to shortages and food deprivation within the state.
The governor stated, “Trucks that come to purchase or transport food products from our communities in large quantities are to be temporarily halted. We have suspended wholesale purchases from our local markets and all our local governments, effective immediately.”
“Anyone found violating this directive will face the confiscation of their trucks by authorized security agencies, and the food will be distributed to the people,” he added.
This action comes amidst the economic challenges faced by Nigerians. With the depreciation of the Naira, the prices of food items have soared nationwide, exacerbating hardship for many.
