Former Nigerian military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, has asserted that history will ultimately assess his contributions to Nigeria, emphasizing his commitment to serving the nation to the best of his abilities. Babangida highlighted his profound understanding of the country and the establishment of connections across various sectors as his most significant accomplishments. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Minna, Niger State, the ex-Nigerian leader acknowledged employing both coercion and dialogue as leadership approaches.
In response to questions about his achievements during his tenure as Head of State, he stated, “Foremost among them is my dedicated service to the country, performed to the best of my capabilities. While it may not meet everyone’s expectations, I leave the assessment to the judgment of history.” Babangida also emphasized his amicable relations with the people, citing extensive travels that provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the nation. He considered building friendships nationwide as a major triumph.
Referred to as IBB, the former leader encouraged young Nigerians to familiarize themselves with the country, asserting that they are the future leaders. He advised them to study the country, its people, and develop an understanding that would prepare them for future leadership roles. Babangida emphasized the responsibility of leaders to address challenges and provide solutions, irrespective of the chosen leadership style.
