I have no plans to leave Labour Party – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has reiterated his loyalty to the party and dismissed speculations about his potential departure. Despite the internal strife within the party, Obi affirmed that he has no plans to leave in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, he emphasized that he harbors no ambitions of becoming Nigeria’s President at any point in his life.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Sunday after inaugurating a hand pump for water supply in the Sabon Layi community, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, Obi stated, “I am not considering 2027; my primary concern currently is enhancing the living standards and welfare of Nigerians. Politics should not be a priority now; the focus ought to be on fostering good governance for the betterment of Nigeria.”

Addressing the internal discord within the opposition party, the former Anambra governor remarked, “The leadership crisis within the LP is not an unusual occurrence; it’s an internal issue that will be resolved amicably within the party. I have never entertained the thought of leaving the LP; my advocacy for peace stems from my belief in unity and equality among all. I perceive no distinction between individuals; I always strive to do what is right. That’s why I personally came here today; I could have sent a representative, but I chose not to.”
