The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has issued a stern warning to the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, regarding potential election malpractice in the Imo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11.
IPOB emphasized that it would not stand idly by and allow the Nigerian government to manipulate the election using INEC officials.
In a statement released by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, they cautioned INEC against any actions that could lead to political turmoil in Imo State.
The statement reads in part: “The global community and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by the dedicated liberator, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU, warns INEC against destabilizing Imo State during the upcoming gubernatorial election.”
“While IPOB typically does not engage in Nigeria’s questionable electoral processes, we cannot remain silent while the Nigerian government employs corrupt INEC officials to perpetrate wrongdoing in Imo State and the entire Southeast region.”
“INEC is notorious for its fraudulent conduct during Nigerian elections. It lacks independence and is heavily influenced by the ruling government or wealthy politicians who manipulate it for their own interests.”
“During this upcoming election in Imo State, INEC officials must exercise caution to prevent pushing the state into a crisis by facilitating another four-year term of hardship, starvation, and violence.”
“INEC officials must not replicate the Supreme Court’s actions, which imposed an unpopular candidate on the people of Imo State, causing them undue suffering, political oppression, and widespread violence.”
Powerful pointed out that IPOB opposes political parties and governments that are detrimental to the people of the Southeast.
He accused Governor Hope Uzodinma of worsening the security situation in Imo State and beyond.
He warned those assisting Uzodinma in rigging the election to be vigilant, as those who engage in dubious activities may face consequences. Just as someone who chooses a flawed firewood has indirectly invited trouble.
“In light of this, the INEC officials selected by Hope Uzodinma to manipulate the Imo State election should tread carefully. Manipulating the wishes of the people in this election would be detrimental, whether due to financial incentives or threats.”
In conclusion, IPOB’s statement underscores their commitment to preventing any electoral misconduct in the Imo State election and their stance against government actions that negatively affect the people of the Southeast.
