The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has dismissed a viral video suggesting his withdrawal from the upcoming Saturday election.
Anyanwu insisted that the circulated video was manipulated and edited to deceive the electorate in the state. In a statement issued by the Director of his campaign council, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, on Friday, Anyanwu urged the people of the state to disregard the video.
Attributing the fake video to mischief makers, the statement clarified, “The SamJones Governorship Campaign Council is compelled to address a malicious video circulating, falsely claiming that our esteemed candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race. We emphatically state that this information is categorically FALSE. After a thorough examination of the video, it became evident that it was heavily edited with manipulated audio to mislead the public.”
Anyanwu is set to face the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma, in a closely contested governorship election on Saturday, expressing confidence in his bid to take over leadership from Uzodinma.
