Ahead of the 2023 general election, The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, wants women to take advantage of their population to elect more women into various electoral offices for rapid socio-economic growth of the country.
A Deputy Director of Gender Relations, INEC, Mrs. Victoria Eta-messi made the call at Voter Education Sensitization Market outreach program organized by the Nigerian Women Trust Fund in Abuja.
”the women form more than half of registered voters in the nation’s population which should serve as opportunity for them to all go out during next year’s general election to vote credible candidates that can fast-track development at all levels”, she maintained.
The Chief Executive officer of Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Mrs. Mufuliat Fijabi said the aim of the outreach was to provide more awareness to women on the need to support other women in next year’s elections.
She said if women were voted into political offices, it would enhance good governance in all aspects of the country’s economy.
On her part, the representative of the European Union support to democratic governance in Nigeria program, Laolu Olawumi said women come out en masse and vote for women with integrity that are capable of providing the needed social Amenities especially in the rural areas.
