The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Territorial Office, has successfully repatriated 180 Nigerians who were stranded in Libya.
In a statement released on Friday, NEMA reported that the returnees arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos around 7:30 PM on Wednesday, on a charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airlines. The group comprised 67 adult females, 55 adult males, 24 female children, 18 male children, and 16 infants.
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric profiling of the returnees to ensure accurate documentation and support. Additionally, various government agencies provided humanitarian assistance to help the returnees reintegrate into society.
NEMA emphasized that the IOM plays a vital role in supporting Nigerians stranded abroad, and this recent evacuation highlights the organization’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and dignity of migrants.
