Jigawa contributes 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports – Governor Namadi

Jigawa State Governor Mallam Umar Namadi has announced that the state is responsible for over 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports in 2023.

He made this statement during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jigawa State and the Nigeria-Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC) in Dutse, the state capital.

The purpose of the MoU is to foster trade and industrialization in Jigawa State.

“Sesame and hibiscus accounted for 75% of Nigeria’s exports last year,” Namadi stated. “Ninety percent of that sesame and hibiscus came from Jigawa. Thus, we contribute 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports.”

Dr. Kassim Gidado, representing the Nigerian Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC), reiterated the organization’s commitment to strengthening economic ties between Jigawa State and the Gulf region.

Gidado mentioned that the collaboration began on October 26, 2023, and has led to the creation of the MoU.

He highlighted Jigawa State’s significant potential, especially in industries like sesame seeds, hibiscus, and solid minerals, and stated that the MoU aims to promote these products, utilize Jigawa’s comparative advantages, and attract investments for export-ready industries.

NAGCC has pledged to achieve these goals by leveraging their trade and regional offices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
