On Tuesday morning, government workers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) gathered in large numbers across the nation to commence a two-day nationwide protest concerning the prevalent economic difficulties and high cost of living in Nigeria.
The national leadership of the NLC had announced a two-day nationwide protest scheduled for February 27th and 28th to highlight the hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly workers, due to insecurity and the fuel subsidy removal policy of the Bola Tinubu administration.
Led by NLC President Joe Ajaero, the workers initiated their protest march from the Labour House national headquarters in Abuja, heading towards the National Assembly complex. Reports from various states, including Lagos, Cross River, Ebonyi, Gombe, Oyo, Ondo, Kogi, and Rivers, indicate compliance with the NLC’s directive, with workers taking to the streets to demand an end to “hunger, poverty, and insecurity.”
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) across the states assured security for peaceful protesters and law-abiding citizens during the demonstrations, while cautioning troublemakers to refrain from causing disruptions.
In line with their commitment to ensuring a safe environment, the Lagos State Police Command distributed bottled water and biscuits to NLC members participating in the ongoing protest march in Lagos.
