The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, expressed understanding of why Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and other deposed emirs are unhappy.
In an interview with Saturday Sun, Sanusi explained that their discontent stems from losing the privileges they once enjoyed as emirs.
Sanusi and Bayero both lay claim to the throne of the Kano Emirate.
Sanusi remarked, “We are dealing with a situation where someone divided us. When such divisions are created, some individuals gain privileges. They didn’t ask for it, but they enjoyed it for four years.
“Now, losing those privileges is a problem. However, the real issue began four years ago. If that division hadn’t occurred, we wouldn’t be facing this situation today. We are one family, one people. Someone came and divided us.
“Within this family, an emirate was given to part of the family. After enjoying it for four years, losing it becomes problematic.”
Recently, a Federal High Court in Kano awarded N10 million in compensation to Bayero for his arrest and eviction from the palace.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had dethroned Ado Bayero the previous month, ordering him to hand over power within 48 hours.
