The Kwara State Government has given a three-month deadline to substandard and unregistered private schools in the state. The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, issued this ultimatum during a meeting with owners of unregistered private schools in Ilorin.
Hajia Modibbo expressed dissatisfaction with some private school owners who have failed to adhere to the regulations governing the establishment of private schools. She warned that the state government would take necessary actions against private schools that attempt to undermine its efforts.
The commissioner urged the operators of illegal private schools in the state to ensure they follow due process in establishing and registering their schools. She expressed concern about substandard schools, describing them as not in the best interest of the children who represent the future of the state.
Modibbo declared, “The government will not compromise its standard. A solid and efficient foundational learning is key and the right of every child.”
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, affirmed that the ministry would continue to regulate, approve, and monitor private schools. She emphasized the importance of thorough inspections for quality assurance and standards in both private and public educational institutions.
