Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, will graduate 6,374 students for the 2023/2024 academic year, as announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh Luqman-Jimoh.
At a press conference held to kick off the 12th Convocation ceremonies, the VC shared that 71 students attained first-class honors, while 1,828 graduated with second-class upper division degrees. Furthermore, 517 postgraduate students completed their studies this session.
The convocation is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the university’s ultramodern performing arts building. Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, the President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science, will present the convocation lecture on “The Optimum Utilization of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation.”
Professor Jimoh also outlined notable achievements for the academic session, including the introduction of 10 new degree programs approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the expansion of faculties from nine to eleven. The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital was upgraded to meet the clinical needs of the MBBS program.
Addressing challenges faced by the university, he cited issues such as land encroachment, poor road infrastructure, and insufficient hostel accommodations. The VC thanked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his efforts in resolving some of these problems and for approving the new minimum wage for university employees.
