Lagos Govt begins one-week raid on beggars, miscreants, others

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in collaboration with the Lagos State Task Force, has launched a week-long operation to address the activities of beggars, miscreants, and other societal challenges across the state.

The initiative, spurred by public concerns, aims to clear the streets of individuals involved in begging, loitering, and other activities that contribute to environmental nuisances and security threats.

At the launch of the exercise, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mobolaji Ogunlende explained that the operation was in response to numerous complaints and security concerns raised by residents throughout Lagos.

He noted that the frequency of these reports prompted immediate intervention by the relevant agencies.

“Since the commencement of this operation, a substantial number of adults and children have been rescued from the streets of Lagos,” Ogunlende stated.

The rescued individuals have been relocated to rehabilitation centers for proper care, rehabilitation, and eventual reintegration into society. Efforts are underway to reunite children with their families, while adults will participate in empowerment programs to develop skills that can help them achieve economic independence.

The operation has covered key areas, including Awolowo Way, Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Lekki Road, and other strategic parts of the state.
