Malami fires back at Obasanjo over corruption allegations on presidential pardons

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari of fostering unprecedented corruption, particularly condemning the presidential pardons granted to former governors Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame, who were convicted of embezzlement.

Obasanjo alleged that former Attorney General Abubakar Malami played a crucial role in securing these pardons, implying that the process was tainted by corruption.

In response, Malami rejected the accusations, clarifying that the pardon process is overseen by a designated committee, and his involvement was limited to presenting the committee’s recommendations to the Council of State.

He further stressed that corruption allegations should be backed by concrete evidence, criticizing the trend of making unfounded claims against public officials.

The Federal Government also dismissed Obasanjo’s remarks, defending the Buhari administration’s track record on anti-corruption initiatives and infrastructure development.
