The Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch has successfully eliminated a feared terrorist and abduction ringleader known as Yellow Jambros, along with numerous other terrorists, in airstrikes conducted in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conveyed this information on Sunday in Abuja, as shared by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet. Gabkwet explained that the terrorists met their demise while attempting to traverse the Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District on their way to the Wurukuvhi axis of Chikun Local Government Area.
Before the airstrike, it was revealed that Yellow Jambros and his associates had been tracked from Zamfara into Niger on 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border. As they progressed, five additional motorcycle-riding terrorists joined the convoy at Kusasu, bringing the total number of motorcycles to 18. The group then proceeded to the bank of River Jikudna.
At the river bank, the terrorists, along with their 18 motorcycles, embarked on a large motor-powered canoe in an attempt to cross and link up with other terrorists on the opposite side of the river.
Gabkwet highlighted that Yellow Jambros and his associates were responsible for numerous kidnappings and killings along the Abuja-Kaduna Road, as well as in various communities in Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, and Zamfara States.
The NAF spokesperson further disclosed that a kidnap kingpin named Mohammed Sani, apprehended by the police in Zamfara in October 2020 for the murder of over 50 victims due to their inability to pay ransom, claimed to work for Yellow Jambros. According to Gabkwet, the terrorist supplied Sani with fake military and police uniforms, guns, and other necessary weapons for executing his criminal operations.
