Minister Says Husbands Can Beat Wives

Minister for women and family in Malaysia have said that husbands can beat their wives when they tend to be rude and undisciplined.

The minster in a 2-minute video on Instagram tagged “Mother Tips”, stated that husbands can beat their wives ‘gently’, as a means to disciplining them.

Sati Zailah Mohd Yusoff, deputy minister for women and family, an MP for Parti Islam Se Malaysia (PAS), an Islamic party with conservative values, said husbands should at first advice their ‘undisciplined and stubborn’ wives. If they wife refuses to take correction, they should avoid sharing a bed with them for days.

She said: “However, if the wife still refuses to take the advice, or change her behaviour after the sleeping separation, then the husbands can try the physical touch approach, by striking her gently, to show his strictness and how much he wants her to change.”

Advising women on how to speak to their husbands, she said, “Speak to your husbands when they are calm, finished eating, have prayed and are relaxed. When we want to speak, ask for permission first.”
