Flamingos Edge Closer to 2025 U-17 Women’s World Cup with 3-1 Victory Over South Africa

Nigeria’s Flamingos took a significant step toward qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after securing a 3-1 win against South Africa at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.

Shakirat Moshood opened the scoring for Nigeria 20 minutes into the match, while Harmony Chidi extended the lead with a penalty five minutes before halftime.

The hosts responded early in the second half as captain Katleho Malebana converted a penalty in the 47th minute. However, Chidi struck again in the 68th minute, restoring the Flamingos’ two-goal advantage.

The second leg of the tie is set to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, next Saturday.

The team with the better aggregate score will advance to the final qualifying round.
