‘Nabeeha’s murder shows kidnappers, bandits operate in Nigeria unhindered – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate in the 2023 election and former vice president of Nigeria, has responded to the death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was killed by her abductors in Abuja. Atiku conveyed his sentiments through an official statement on his X handle on Sunday.

In his statement, Atiku expressed sorrow over the brutal murder of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, emphasizing that her tragic death highlighted the unchecked activities of kidnappers and bandits in Nigeria. He called for a restructuring of the country’s security architecture to curtail the free operation of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.

Atiku’s statement read, “I am saddened by reports of the brutal murder of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was abducted with her siblings and has been in the custody of their abductors for almost two weeks. This is yet another reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in our country.”

He further advocated for proactive measures by security agencies to rescue the remaining victims still in the custody of the kidnappers.

Barely two weeks ago, bandits abducted Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar and his six children in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. Nabeeha, a 400-level biological science student at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was among the kidnapped individuals. Other abducted siblings include Najeebah (500 level, Quantity Surveying) and Nadheerah (300 level, Zoology).

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N60 million, later increasing it to N100 million after Nabeeha’s murder. The incident prompted public outcry on social media, with Nigerians demanding justice for Nabeeha and the release of her siblings.

In response to inquiries about the situation, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the police were working on the case but requested additional information to aid their efforts in rescuing the victims unharmed.
