The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai successfully conducted air strikes on a Boko Haram stronghold in Tagoshe, located on the Mandara Mountains in Borno. The strikes, carried out on Friday, resulted in the elimination of a top Boko Haram terrorist leader named Abu Asad and many others. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, described these air strikes as one of the most successful operations by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai in recent memory.
According to Gabkwet, the Nigerian Air Force identified a group of terrorists gathered in a remote area with three zinced huts surrounded by trees. The reconnaissance indicated that the terrorists were either planning a meeting or preparing for a large-scale attack on troops. The airstrike footage revealed over 100 heavily armed terrorists engaging in banter and moving around the structures, which also housed four army carriers.
As a result of the air strike, two out of the three structures and the entire troop carriers were destroyed. The aftermath also indicated the elimination of key Boko Haram figures, including Abu Asad from the Ali Ngulde group, and other terrorists such as Ibrahim Nakeeb, Mujaheed Dimtu, Mustafa Munzir, and several fighters.
