Nigerian Army intercepts trucks transporting cement to Cameroon

Nigerian Army forces have intercepted trucks suspected of transporting prohibited items to Cameroon, according to reports. The trucks, each laden with 600 50kg bags of cement, were exhibited to journalists at the Nigeria Police headquarters in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, on Friday. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had previously issued an Executive Order prohibiting the transport of construction materials across Adamawa’s borders.

Spokespersons for both the governor and the Adamawa State Police Command, Humwashi Wonosikou and SP Suleiman Nguroje respectively, jointly presented the intercepted vehicles to the press, revealing that they were stopped a short distance before Jamtari, a border village between Nigeria and Cameroon. Wonosikou condemned the actions, stating that such defiance of government directives is intolerable, while Nguroje confirmed the deployment of personnel statewide to enforce the ban on construction material transportation across borders.

However, confusion arose when Abiola Oyetunji, listed as the contact person on the waybill, expressed bewilderment that the trucks had left the company’s Yola depot without the cement being sold, claiming that the driver informed her he was still at the depot.
