The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State, Commandant Usman Alfadarai, welcomed Major Martin Domkat, the newly appointed acting Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion (Rear) of the Nigerian Army, at the NSCDC headquarters in Umuahia.
During the visit, Major Domkat stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation, mutual support, and intelligence sharing between the military and the NSCDC to enhance security and peace in Abia State. He noted that the existing collaboration between the Army and the NSCDC had been effective in protecting lives and property, urging the State Commandant to maintain this momentum.
In response, Commandant Alfadarai expressed his appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to a strong partnership with the Nigerian Army, emphasizing that inter-agency collaboration is vital for maintaining law and order in the state. He assured the acting Commanding Officer that the NSCDC would continue to work closely to foster a peaceful and secure environment.
Additionally, the Abia Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta, represented by Secretary Mrs. Nna Nelly Nnenna, sought collaboration with the NSCDC to promote peace and address conflicts in the Niger Delta region. She highlighted the need for peaceful coexistence, especially in conflict-prone areas of Abia State.
Commandant Alfadarai welcomed this initiative and acknowledged the necessity of collective efforts to ensure peace and stability. He explained that part of the NSCDC’s mandate involves peace and conflict resolution through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods. He committed to working with the group on peace initiatives and conflict resolution throughout Abia State.
