Nnamdi Kanu: Court threatens to jail DSS DG Bichi

The Abuja Federal High Court has warned Yusuf Bichi, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), that he could face imprisonment for alleged contempt of court.

This warning comes in response to the DSS repeatedly disregarding the court’s orders concerning visits to Nnamdi Kanu while in DSS custody.

The notice, shared by Kanu’s lead counsel Aloy Ejimakor with DAILY POST, reads: “TAKE NOTICE that unless you obey the directions contained in this Order, you will be guilty of Contempt of Court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”

The notice was acknowledged by DSS operatives Tina James and Fatima Abdul.

Previously, on May 20, 2024, the Federal High Court, led by Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, denied Kanu’s application to reinstate his bail as per the Supreme Court’s ruling. However, the court issued an order modifying the conditions for Kanu’s legal visits.

This order was intended to provide Kanu’s lawyers more opportunities to prepare him for trial, ensuring he receives a fair trial.

Justice Nyako directed that Kanu be allowed to meet with up to five of his lawyers in a “clean” room at the State Security Services facility where he is detained.
