No explosion at Zungeru hydropower dam – Police

Niger State Police Command has debunked reports of an explosion at the Zungeru Hydro Electric Power Dam located in Wushishi Local Government Area on Monday, July 1, 2024.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a statement issued in Minna.

He described the reports as “untrue,” saying there was no such incident at the multi-million naira power dam as was claimed.

Earlier, reports stated that the hydroelectric power station, which is yet to be officially commissioned, was hit by an explosion, which resulted in many workers sustaining various degrees of injuries and damage to some facilities.

According to the reports, the real cause of the explosion is still unknown.

In the statement titled ” Fake Report Alert,” the police spokesperson noted: “We wish to respond that there is no report of any kind of explosion at Zungeru Dam, as reported by some online media.”

He urged members of the public to disregard the report.

Zungeru Dam is the fourth dam in Niger State after the Jebba, Kainji and Shiroro dams.
