The Zamfara State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has affirmed its unwavering support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and its commitment to aiding the fulfillment of the NYSC’s mandate.
During a courtesy visit to Gusau, the NUJ State Council Chairman, Ibrahim Musa Maizare, assured the NYSC Editorial and Publicity Community Development Service (CDS) group of the union’s support. He acknowledged the NYSC’s significant contributions to national unity and integration, highlighting that it was a historic occasion as it marked the first official identification of the NYSC team with the union.
Maizare emphasized the media’s primary goals of informing, educating, and entertaining the public, expressing the NUJ’s readiness to collaborate with groups and organizations interested in the state’s development. He encouraged the corps members, as young journalists, to consider themselves part of the union and view the NUJ secretariat as their home.
Abdulrazak Bello Kaura, the Zonal Secretary, shared his memorable NYSC experience, serving in Bayelsa State. He encouraged corps members to be good ambassadors, respect local norms and traditions, and make a lasting impact on their host communities.
The leader of the NYSC delegation, Akonte Samuel, stated that the visit aimed to strengthen ties with media executives and stakeholders in the state. He highlighted the NYSC’s contributions to national unity, peace, and stability, acknowledging the NUJ as a critical stakeholder in achieving the NYSC’s core objectives. Samuel also revealed plans to launch a weekly radio program to enhance the publicity of NYSC activities in the state.
