Oladipupo Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has announced that his legal team has successfully lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court concerning the governorship election held on March 18 in the state. In a Christmas message conveyed by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, Adebutu expressed confidence that justice would prevail.
Previously, Adebutu contested the election victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the tribunal, citing various issues such as alleged over-voting, gross misconduct, disenfranchisement, non-compliance with the electoral act, and failure to adhere to the margin of lead principle. Despite his efforts, the court upheld the governor’s election up to the appeal court.
Adebutu, who recently returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, shared his Christmas message, stating that he is back home to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with his people. The statement emphasized that all necessary steps in reclaiming the mandate of the people of Ogun State had been completed at the Supreme Court without encountering any successful obstruction.
Reflecting on the spirit of Christmas, Adebutu drew parallels between the teachings of Jesus Christ—centered on love, compassion, and sacrifice—and his commitment to redeeming the mandate of Ogun State. He encouraged residents to pray for the state and expressed optimism that, akin to the victory of Jesus over challenges, their efforts in reclaiming the mandate would ultimately succeed.
Adebutu appreciated the warm reception he received from the people of Ogun State, interpreting it as a strong indication that the people firmly believe in the delivery of true justice at the Supreme Court. He urged the people to celebrate the season moderately with friends and family, expressing hope that victory is imminent in their pursuit of justice.
