Ondo: Akeredolu transmits power to deputy governor, begins medical leave

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has instructed his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to temporarily assume his duties in an acting capacity as he takes a medical leave starting from Wednesday. The governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, conveyed this information in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Governor Akeredolu, who has been unwell since January, is committed to prioritizing his health and ensuring a complete recovery before returning to his official responsibilities. The statement also mentioned that a formal letter outlining the medical leave and officially transferring power in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution will be submitted to the House of Assembly.

Highlighting Governor Akeredolu’s track record, the statement pointed out that, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a highly respected figure, he has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations. This practice was observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, during his previous vacations.
