The Oyo State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called upon workers not to report to work on Monday. This joint announcement was made in a press statement signed by Comrade Kayode Martins (NLC Chairperson) and Comrade Bosun Olabiyi Agoro (TUC Chairman) on Friday.
The unions have advised all state workers not to attend work on Monday but to gather at the NLC secretariat for a congress. They have stated that, following the expiration of the ultimatum given to the state government, which has yet to provide a satisfactory solution to their concerns, all employees should remove their personal belongings from their offices on Friday (today) and convene at the NLC secretariat located at Agodi Gate in Ibadan on Monday.
The statement has also encouraged pensioners in the state to join in this action. Additionally, it has denounced the recent assault on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.
The unions have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the well-being and rights of workers in both Oyo State and across the nation. They have described the attack on the NLC President as a serious violation of labor rights and an alarming example of authoritarian tendencies displayed by certain state governments towards the labor movement.
In conclusion, the Oyo State NLC and TUC have made it clear that they will not take the attack on the National President of the NLC or any labor leader lightly. They are resolute in their dedication to defending the rights and welfare of workers in Oyo State and throughout Nigeria.
