On Friday in Kaduna, chaos erupted as police dispersed a gathering of members from the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, commonly known as Shiites, who were holding a procession to mark the International Qud’s day. The IMN members had assembled near the Katsina roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way before the police intervened to prevent potential disorder.
The procession instilled panic and anxiety among residents, especially those with shops along Ahmadu Bello Way, leading many to close their shops to avoid getting involved in the commotion.
According to the police, the IMN’s activities have been outlawed by the Federal Government, making the procession illegal. ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, stated that IMN members had come out armed in the morning and began assaulting innocent residents under the guise of a procession.
He added that the IMN members attacked the police when they attempted to disperse them, resulting in injuries to some officers. Several individuals in possession of dangerous weapons have been apprehended, and upon the completion of the investigation, they will face legal charges.
