Travelers have been stranded because all entry points to the domestic terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport are blocked.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) initiated the blockade due to an industrial action.
In an online video, passengers are seen expressing frustration over their inability to reach the airport.
This action has led to the suspension of all flights from the airport.
The labor unions launched the strike to advocate for an increase in the minimum wage for workers.
While the unions are demanding a new minimum wage of N494,000, the Nigerian government is only offering N60,000.
In a last-minute attempt to prevent the strike, leaders from the National Assembly met with labor union representatives yesterday.
However, the meeting ended in a stalemate as the labor unions insisted on going ahead with the strike.
TUC President Comrade Festus Osifo stated that the strike could not be called off without consulting union members.
“It is difficult and in fact impossible for us as labour leaders to call off the strike here.
“We need to communicate with our various organs, meaning that the industrial action starts on Monday as planned,” he said.
