PDP South-East Zonal Chairman congratulates Anyanwu, hails Supreme Court ruling

The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Southeast Zone, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, has congratulated the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, on his Supreme Court victory.

Egwu also commended the Justices of the Supreme Court for their impartiality in upholding both the PDP constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed Senator Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP, bringing an end to the prolonged legal battle over the position.

In a statement issued after the ruling, Egwu described the judgment as a positive development for Nigeria’s democracy, stating:

“This ruling has restored hope to millions of PDP members across Nigeria.”

He emphasized that the verdict serves as a warning against political desperation and unchecked ambition.

Egwu urged the National Secretary to work with other PDP stakeholders in the Southeast to reconnect with former party members who left due to the high-handed leadership of the expelled zonal chairman, Chief Ali Odefa.

He also pledged to collaborate with party leaders to resolve pending issues, including the state congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states, ensuring they are conducted as soon as possible.

Expressing regret over the impact of Ali Odefa’s leadership, Egwu noted that no aspirant purchased a governorship nomination form in Anambra State due to concerns over the party’s internal issues.

“Our priority now is to ensure that state congresses are conducted in Ebonyi and Anambra states,” he stated.

“These states have suffered under the PDP, and this is why no one bought a form for the upcoming November 2025 governorship election in Anambra. With this ruling, valid congresses can now take place.”

Egwu was nominated by PDP stakeholders in Ebonyi State to replace Ali Odefa after the latter’s suspension from his ward in Onicha LGA. His nomination was later ratified by Southeast PDP stakeholders on January 12, 2025.

Ali Odefa was expelled after a disciplinary committee found him guilty of anti-party activities. The Federal High Court in Abakaliki upheld his expulsion on February 26, 2025.
