The Presidency has accused Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the 2023 Labour Party (LP), of introducing what they deem as “two perilous elements” into Nigerian politics during the last elections.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, asserted that Obi fueled religious and ethnic tensions during the elections.
Onanuga clarified that Tinubu’s administration is currently preoccupied with governance and is not concerned with Obi and his supporters, known as the Obidients.
Speaking on Mic On with Seun Okinbaloye, the presidential aide emphasized that Tinubu’s administration remains steadfast and undistracted in its focus.
He stated, “At present, our attention is devoted to governance, and we are not allowing ourselves to be diverted from our government’s objectives. We are fully occupied, and we’re not even paying attention to them at the moment.”
Regarding Obi’s campaign, Onanuga noted, “What I observed about Obi’s campaign was that for the first time in a long while in our country, we had a candidate who was inciting ethnic sentiments. That was the trend during that election period. He was inciting ethnic and religious tensions, introducing two hazardous elements into our politics: ethnicity and religion.”
He characterized these actions as detrimental to the political landscape of the country.
