Plateau massacre: PDP slams Tinubu, expresses fears over president’s alleged complicity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of negligence in the face of what it labeled as genocide in Plateau State. The PDP blamed Tinubu for not visiting the affected Plateau communities, expressing concerns about his perceived inaction and raising suspicions of complicity.

The opposition party emphasized the need for an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into the massacre that occurred on Christmas Eve, where over a hundred people were killed and numerous communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs of Plateau State were affected. Despite subsequent attacks in the same local government, Tinubu’s failure to personally visit the scenes was deemed inexplicable by the PDP.

The PDP asserted that Tinubu’s lack of personal empathy and leadership in the aftermath of the genocidal massacre fueled public concerns about potential complicity at higher levels. The party called for Tinubu to allay fears by immediately visiting the affected communities, addressing the nation, and outlining concrete steps to apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors.

The PDP criticized the President’s silence, describing it as a grave insensitivity and dereliction of duty, particularly as the Commander-in-Chief. The party highlighted the contrast with other leaders, such as President Joe Biden, who personally visited scenes of tragedy to offer condolences.

The PDP underscored the urgency for Tinubu to wake up to his responsibilities as President, condemning the use of proxies and token gestures in addressing the crisis while citizens suffer. The party reiterated its demand for an ICC investigation into the Christmas Eve genocide, characterizing it as an international crime against the peaceful and innocent people of Plateau State.
