Police Probe Killing Of Kwara Poly Student, Rector Commiserates With Family

The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the alleged murder of Kwara State Polytechnic student Qoyum Ishola.

Ishola is said to have been killed on September 4, 2024, in the Sango area of Ilorin, the state capital. His peers have expressed outrage, claiming that a police officer was responsible for his death. However, the state police command, through a statement from spokesperson Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, has assured the deceased’s family of their support during this challenging time and their commitment to seeking justice.

An investigation is already underway, with key individuals and witnesses being identified. The Kwara State Police Command is devoted to uncovering the truth and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable under the law. They emphasize their dedication to transparency and integrity in the investigation, urging the public and the student community to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold without interference. Additionally, Engr Abdul Muhammed, the rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, expressed sorrow over the death of Abdulqoyyum, a second-year National Diploma student in Electrical Electronic Engineering. In a statement by Mrs. Halimat Garba, the Polytechnic’s public relations officer, Muhammed acknowledged the confusion surrounding the circumstances of Ishola’s death due to various unverified reports. He affirmed that the institution’s administration is committed to ensuring justice based on the final investigation results. Muhammed commended the students for their calmness and underscored the Polytechnic community’s determination to seek accountability and justice for Abdulqoyyum as the investigation progresses.
