The Cross River State Police Command successfully rescued a former employee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who had been abducted from her residence in Calabar on Saturday.
Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed this and praised the bravery of the officers involved in the operation. During the rescue operation, three suspects were apprehended, and two vehicles were recovered.
According to Ugbo, the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (ACKS) of the command, under the leadership of SP Chukwuma Ogini, promptly responded to a distress call regarding the abduction at Mathias Oje Avenue in Calabar Municipality.
She also acknowledged the assistance provided by the courageous Njangachang youths in the area who helped in capturing the suspects.
The suspects were found in possession of weapons, ammunition, and charms at the time of their arrest.
Ugbo reiterated Commissioner Gyogon Grimah’s determination to combat and eliminate criminal activities in the state, stating, “We want to emphasize that the state will not be a sanctuary for kidnappers or criminals any longer. This is the directive of the Commissioner as per the Inspector General of Police.”
