Police reveal how hoodlums attacked, bombed APP office in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has reported that their investigation found that the individuals who attacked and detonated an explosive at the state secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt arrived in a car.

According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, two young men emerged from the vehicle and set off the explosive.

On August 12, 2024, the command received an urgent call about a loud explosion at the APP secretariat located in Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt. The state police commissioner, along with a tactical team and experts from the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD/Anti-Bomb) Squad, were promptly dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.

The team secured the area and began Explosive Ordinance Disposal Procedures and search operations. The EOD experts identified a crater in front of the building where the device had been detonated, which caused shockwaves that damaged the windows and doors.

Eyewitnesses reported that a car was parked a short distance from the APP secretariat, from which two men emerged, walked to the building, ignited the suspected device, and threw it before quickly returning to the vehicle and driving away.

The presence of the crater and other evidence, coupled with eyewitness accounts, confirmed that an explosive device had been used. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the building’s front was damaged.

Samples from the explosion site have been collected for further forensic analysis. The police have intensified their efforts to investigate and capture all suspects involved in the attack.

The PPRO identified Mr. Preye Josiah as the prime suspect linked to the explosion, which occurred during a protest by anti-Fubara demonstrators in Port Harcourt. Josiah, who is on the police wanted list, is currently hospitalized due to injuries he sustained from the explosion.
