The Taraba State Police Command has urged for restraint and peaceful behavior as the nationwide protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress takes place between February 27th and 28th. Commissioner of Police, David Iloyanomon, stated in a Tuesday announcement that the Command has implemented a strong security plan by deploying highly visible police patrols to key locations such as government facilities, warehouses, hospitals, schools, markets, and residential areas. This deployment, he explained, is intended to reassure citizens of the Command’s steadfast dedication to their safety during the planned demonstrations.
While acknowledging citizens’ constitutional right to engage in peaceful protests, the Command stressed the importance of adhering to the law throughout the protests. CP Iloyanomon emphasized that the Command will enforce legal measures to prevent any violation of individuals’ rights. He noted that operational and manpower resources have been strategically stationed across the state to facilitate the orderly progression of the protests.
The Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains vigilant to prevent any attempts by individuals or groups to exploit the protests for illegal purposes. He also cautioned against the involvement of troublemakers in the demonstrations and assured swift intervention to maintain law and order. Citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the police for immediate action.
Furthermore, he appealed to parents and guardians to advise their children against participating in violence and to uphold the principles of legality. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens during the protests.
