During an attack on Governor Mai Mala Buni’s convoy along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway on Saturday by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, one policeman was tragically killed. The confirmation of the officer’s death was provided by Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, in a statement issued on Sunday in Damaturu.
The deceased, Corporal Maina Mohammed, was part of the security escort for the governor returning from Maiduguri to Damaturu after attending the University of Maiduguri’s Convocation ceremony. Governor Buni expressed his condolences to the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic and unfortunate.
He prayed for the repose of the policeman’s soul and the swift recovery of those injured. The governor directed the Specialist Hospital Damaturu to offer comprehensive medical services to the injured security personnel and instructed the secretary to the state government to facilitate support for the deceased policeman’s family.
