The Vatican confirmed on Monday that Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88 following complications from pneumonia and a stroke. He had been hospitalized for five weeks earlier this year due to double pneumonia. The Vatican revealed that he slipped into a coma after suffering a stroke and ultimately succumbed to “irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.”
Meanwhile, the College of Cardinals is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to finalize funeral arrangements, which will be attended by global dignitaries. Preparations are also underway for a conclave next month to elect a new pope.
