President Tinubu declares April 7 as National Police Day

President Bola Tinubu has designated April 7th as National Police Day. This announcement was made on Monday evening during the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu during the event.

Tinubu emphasized the imperative of a profound overhaul of the institutional mindset and memory of police officers as crucial elements in his administration’s ongoing endeavor to modernize the force into a professional and accountable institution.

Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu stated that his administration has initiated extensive reforms aimed at revitalizing the nation’s police force. He highlighted the importance of engaging police personnel in training and capacity-building endeavors to equip them with the necessary expertise for contemporary policing tasks.

Furthermore, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government has sanctioned the first week of April as police week, with April 7th designated as National Police Day in Nigeria.

In his address, Tinubu emphasized that the police force is not viewed merely as the guardians of the nation but as human beings deserving of recognition and respect. He commended the commitment of the police in safeguarding the nation amidst security challenges, acknowledging their bravery as a testament to patriotism.

The president outlined some of the comprehensive reforms undertaken by his administration to rejuvenate the police force, which includes substantial investments in training and capacity-building initiatives.
