Rivers crisis: Fubara appoints ex-Speaker Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has designated the recently resigned Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, as his new Chief of Staff, succeeding Chidi Amadi in the role. Ehie, who shares a close alliance with Governor Fubara, stepped down from the position of the Speaker a few days prior.

It is worth noting that the peace meeting convened at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu resulted in a resolution recognizing Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as the new Speaker of the House. However, the agreement did not include a provision requiring Ehie to vacate his position as a member of the House.

These developments stem from the ongoing conflict between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara, centered around the control of state resources and the political structure.
