The Rivers State Police Command has declared former Niger Delta militant leader Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja wanted.
This action follows the circulation of a viral video in which Asabuja issued threats amid the ongoing crisis in the state’s local government councils.
Tunji Disu, the state Commissioner of Police, stated that Asabuja’s video had caused significant panic.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Disu commented: “That video caused a lot of panic in the state. It gives a lot of concern to everybody even out of the state.
“I want to assure you that we are not going to take kindly to that. We have put actions in motion. We will get him at the appropriate time. We have apprehended many similar individuals.
“You cannot prepare a video and start firing and threatening people not to move around and do what they are expected to do in town and expect the police to fold their hands.
“We are working towards it. We have invited him and he does not want to come, but we will do what we need to do. We are looking out for him. He is wanted. That is correct.”
The state governor, Sim Fubara, and former local government chairmen have been in conflict following the end of their tenure. Fubara refused to extend the tenure of the former chairmen and instead appointed new caretaker chairmen.
