Ali Ndume, Senator representing Borno South (APC), has praised the soldiers of the 26 Task Force Brigade for successfully fending off a Boko Haram assault on Gwoza’s local government headquarters in Borno State.
The attack occurred around 11:08 a.m. on Friday, when insurgents hiding in the Mandara Mountains infiltrated Gwoza through the Guduf area, located behind the Emir’s Palace. Just a day prior, Boko Haram fighters had launched an attack on Yamtake Village—14 kilometers from Gwoza—killing two soldiers and several civilians.
This latest assault came less than 24 hours after the Borno State House of Assembly passed ten resolutions in response to the renewed wave of terrorist attacks, urging the federal government and security agencies to intensify their efforts.
Senator Ndume, who is from Gwoza, expressed deep concern over the continued violence. Speaking emotionally on Saturday, he lauded Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi and the troops of Operation Hadin Kai for their courage and effective response, which successfully repelled the terrorists and prevented them from reclaiming the area.
Ndume also thanked the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, and vigilante groups for their cooperation in defending the town. He noted that thanks to the joint efforts, no military or civilian casualties were recorded during Friday’s confrontation, and life has since returned to normal in Gwoza.
He emphasized the importance of the community’s resilience and highlighted that businesses have resumed operations.
Gwoza was once a major Boko Haram stronghold where the terrorist group had declared a caliphate before Nigerian forces reclaimed the area several years ago.
