Strike: FG/ASUU Ruining Our Children’s Future – Patriotic Elders

A group, the Patriotic Elders of Nigeria has warned both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to immediately find a common ground in the ongoing dispute.

The President of the Elders, Dr. Bature AbdulAziz said Minister of education, the Finance Minister, and other stakeholders, should see to the immediate call off of the strike.

Bature said, “We are reminding the Federal Government what they are already aware of on the vitality of our children’s education. Today It takes 6-7 years for the average Nigerian public university students to complete their degree programs.

“Our children are threatened by the extension of their education period, hence, travel overseas to acquire education in places with lower education standard than their own country.”

He also appealed to the ASUU to reconsider their request and demand by bearing in mind that the country was currently facing more financial problems than ever before, and should not be inclined to exhibiting their past negative behaviour of insisting on strike for up to two months.

“Our children’s education is at stake and we appeal to the ASUU decision makers to duly consider their future.

“We are calling on both parties to consider our children’s education by not letting the education of the common man decline, while their children are attending expensive private schools within and outside the country,” he added.
