Sudan’s army finally recaptures presidential palace in Khartoum

Sudan’s army announced on Friday that it had regained control of the Republican Palace in Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after nearly two years of conflict.

Sudan’s Information Minister, Khaled al-Aiser, confirmed the military’s success in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Today the flag is raised, the palace is back, and the journey continues until victory is complete.”

The Republican Palace, a significant government compound along the Nile River, had been under RSF control since the outbreak of war in April 2023. Despite heavy shelling and attacks from the Sudanese military, the RSF had maintained its hold on the site until now.

The recapture of the palace marks a major symbolic victory for Sudan’s armed forces in the ongoing conflict.
